cut sth into sth 把某物切成某物。如：

　　First cut the meat into small pieces.

　　先把肉切成小塊。

　　He cut the apple into halves.

　　他把它切成了兩半。

　　注：若指分為兩半，可說(shuō)成 cut sth into halves 或 cut sth in half。

　　cut down 砍倒。如：

　　They cut down the big tree.

　　他們把這棵大樹(shù)砍倒了。

　　削減，壓縮，縮減。如：

　　Expenses ought to be cut down in every way.

　　應(yīng)該在一切方面減少開(kāi)支。

　　You’d better cut the article down to about 2,000 words.

　　你最好能把這篇文章壓到兩千字左右。

　　cut in 插入，插話。如：

　　Don’t cut in when others are talking.

　　別人說(shuō)話時(shí)別插話。

　　He kept cutting in on our conversation.

　　我們談話時(shí)他老是插話。

　　注：cut in on sth 有時(shí)可說(shuō)成 cut into sth, 如上面第二句也可說(shuō)成：

　　He kept cutting into our conversation.

　　插隊(duì)，超車(chē)。如：

　　He cut in at the head of the line.

　　他在隊(duì)伍的前面插隊(duì)。

　　The car overtook me and then cut in on me.

　　那輛小車(chē)超了我的車(chē)，然后插在我前面。

　　cut off 切斷，隔斷，斷絕。如：

　　We were cut off in the middle of our telephone conversation.
