despite和in spite of比較

　　1、論語氣，despite 比in spite of嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)，但意思沒有分別，都可譯做“雖然”或“不顧”。

　　例如：“In spite of/Despite mounting public discontent, the government is determined to push the bill th rough.（雖然公眾不滿愈來愈強(qiáng)烈，政府還是執(zhí)意要通過議案。）”

　　2、有時，我們會看到despite of mounting public discontent之類說法，但despite之后加of，一般被視為鄙俗甚至不正確，不宜仿效。

　　3、In spite of或despite之后必須用名詞或動名詞，不能接普通子句。

　　4、in spite of/despite the fact that這句式雖然正確，卻嫌累贅，最好用although一字取代。

　　例如：“Although the public is getting increasingly discontented,the government is determined to push the bill through. ”

　　5、英文有in spite of/despite oneself這說法，意思是“不由自主”或“不禁”。

　　例如：“Her words were so satirical that I lost my temper in spite of myself.（她的話尖酸刻薄得令我忍不住發(fā)脾氣。）”

　　6、留意spite這個字單獨(dú)使用時，往往解作“惡意”，和in spite of不同。

　　例如：“She did it out of spite.（她那樣做是出于惡意的）”。
